My first experience as an audio engineer was using an iPad to record my band in our friend's attic when I was 15.
The experience kick started a genuine enjoyment of creating music using digital tools, and only a short few years later I re-routed my entire academic pathway and went back to college at Access to Music to learn how to work as a professional audio engineer and producer.
Graduating from Access with a Distinction* helped me secure a place at De Montfort University studying BSc Music Technology. I made real use of the experience, booking time in the studios frequently with various bands I played with, booking out audiovisual equipment to use on personal projects, and working with the DeMon Media team to produce a series of live performance sets for their YouTube channel. I graduated in 2019 with a 1st Class Degree with Honours.
My experience at De Montfort was so positive that I opted to return for my postgraduate degree. My initial plan was to choose a subject to give balance to my CV, but all roads led me back to music and I dropped out of Computer Science and onto MA Music, Technology, and Innovation.
Alongside my final year of my BSc and my entire MA, I worked with a local charity in Leicester, Pedestrian LTD, teaching Music Technology to young people and as part of outreach projects. I also worked as an audio engineer at Clarence Street Studios, offering my recording, mix, and mastering skills to clients in a professional setting, as well as occasional graphic design work - I designed the logo that the studio still uses today!
